Why this book:
Your Annuity Game Plan

About the author

Born in 1955, Joe Quinn holds an MBA but is not a lawyer, CPA, CFP, or insurance license holder. He has 46 years of mostly self-directed investment experience in stocks, options, real estate and yes, a bit of crypto.

First Annuity: Bought in 2015 after hearing a radio commercial. "Don't do what I did!"

Battles with Scammers: Joe is a forensic pit bull. After being targeted in a complex land title duplication scheme in 2012, he helped organize other victims and prosecute a ring of fraudsters. Ten years later, the gang leaders finally went to prison. Along the way, Joe investigated how they managed to post a very high bail, and that uncovered an extensive fraudulent bail scheme that resulted in dozens of arrests.

"I'm certainly not an expert on all annuity products. That would take years in the industry. My expertise is figuring out when things don't add up, how it can hurt you, and how to avoid it. And as an outsider, I can be objective and call out the good, the bad, and the ugly.

Once I dug in, I kept finding flaws, bad surprises, and costly "Takeaways" - not mentioned in any book or YouTube I know of - and in a few months, and I looked for solutions."

The analysis shows that annuities can benefit most retirees, but Joe's inspiration for this book was the realization:  Without a step-by-step recommended process, it's almost impossible for most consumers to make the right choices.

As for the title, he says, "I call it a Game Plan because friends and family asked me to coach them on annuities, and it's like a sport. You play offense to get more income, and you play defense to guard your interests. And you want to win."
